Traditions Are Not Changed: The Day of Donor Was Held At PJSC “Zaporizhstal”

This year, it was the second donor’s day, which was held at “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works. According to the staff of the health center, there are so many volunteers, so that by 10 o’clock in the morning more than 40 employees of the Steel Works have donated blood.

– The plant workers always respond very well, they come in advance to find out when we have donor days. The tradition of holding the Donor Day is very old – from the beginning of 70s of the past century. Previously, this event was held 6 times a year, but nowadays we are holding it 5 times a year, because we decided to give donors rest within summer months so that they will gain strength, – said Svetlana Shaman, the head of PJSC “Zaporizhstal’s” health posts. – The donors themselves are very active, but we also disturb them and ask them to come when blood is urgently needed for complex cases. They always respond and come forward; they are good lad.

For many employees, donation has become a long-standing and constant tradition.

– I have already donated blood in February, and I come today. As soon as they report, at the first opportunity I come here, – said Alexander Tkachenko, the electrician of Railway Transport. – When you do this, you feel that you are helping people. Someone will need your blood in an emergency, and this is the main reason.

On average, within a year it is possible to collect up to 700 liters of blood at “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works, which is 1400 doses. Subsequently, the blood is sent to the Steel Works’ blood bank, is stored in proper conditions and is used if necessary at the request of employees or when transferred to the medical institutions of the city.
