Rinat Akhmetov Foundation Project “Ask the Doctor”: Told about the First Results of Vaccination against COVID-19

The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and the Ukraine TV channel continue the cycle of online broadcasts with medical experts who answer the questions about COVID-19. The guest of the project “Ask the Doctor” was professor, doctor of medical sciences, rector of the National Medical University named after A. Bogomolets Yuri Kuchin. He told the audience how the vaccination against COVID-19 is going on in Ukraine and when its first results will be visible.

“I am very glad that vaccination has begun. There were many obstacles, there was no exact guarantee that this would happen. We all wanted it. Moreover, this is extremely necessary both for the health care system and for the citizens of Ukraine. The main thing is that it has begun, that there is a vaccine, and that the opportunity to be vaccinated is provided. First for medical workers, then for educators, then for other citizens,” said Yuri Kuchin.

According to him, by the end of spring, when a significant number of the citizens will be vaccinated, it will be possible to expect a decrease in the number of detected cases of the disease.

“We expect that we will not have new waves when there is an increase and decrease in the incidence, and then growth may repeat again. Vaccination is carried out so that the next waves are less or stop altogether,” the expert noted.

Yuri Kuchin told how, according to scientists, the strains of coronavirus differ from each other. Some lead to acute symptoms faster, others more slowly. In addition, he advised not to ignore the mask regime and quarantine measures, since the danger of catching COVID-19 is still on a high level.

“If at the end of January some departments were already empty and they were returned to their usual profile, today the number of patients is growing,” said Yuri Kuchin.

Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Rector of the National Medical University. A.
