On September 04, 2014, Zaporozhye city organization of veterans of Ukraine handed in 170 medical devices (blood pressure monitors, glucometers) to veterans and persons born in time of war of Zaporozhye within the framework of project, which won the con-test “We are the city”, arranged by “Zaporozhstal” Steel Works.
The project “To Veterans of War, To persons born in the time of War – medical devices, and units”- became the winner of contest “We are the city” in nomination “Best project, directed for support of socially unprotected groups of population and volunteer services”. Budget of the project amounted to 100 thousand UAH.
The aim of the project is the supporting of elderly people – veterans and persons born in the time of war, who have medical conditions, by necessary medical devices. In the course of the project 140 blood pressure monitors and 30 glucometers would be given to veterans from dif-ferent districts of Zaporozhye.
“This project – is the extending of care and charity to the elderly people, which would help to improve the state of health of veterans. . People who in consistent manner- “according to rules” look after themselves, less frequently consult physician and in due time pay attention to health problems.
I am confident, that this project would help and facilitate the life of our veterans. The health of older generation, our fathers and mothers, grandmothers and grandfathers- is very im-portant for us”, – pointed out Vladymyr Buryak, deputy general director of JSC”Zaporzhstal”.
Substantial assistance is rendered by volunteer union at Zaporozhye city veteran organization in project implementation. Volunteers conducted interviews, questionnaire of World War II veterans, persons born in the time of war with the purpose of determining the needs of veterans in medical devices, at this time volunteers are delivering the devices to veteran’s houses.
The Contest “We are the city” is held in Zaporozhye for the second year in a raw within the framework of Metinvest Group’s programs of social responsibility. Its purpose – is raising the community relief of population and supporting of challenging projects, directed for improve-ment of living standards in all the cities of Metivest’s presence. Totally, 123 applications were lodged for participation in the contest. 17 social projects of citizens of the city got through to the final round, who received funding from “Zaporozhstal” Steel Works in the amount 1,1 million UAH, for implementation of their initiatives to the end of 2014. Each finalist received a grant from the Steel Works in the amount up to 100 thousand UAH for implementation of its project.
