«Zaporozhstal» Steel Works, within the technological strategy of Metinvest, directed to the ecological modernization of the Group’s enterprises, got down to the active phase of gas cleaning installation at sinter machine No.2. Installation of the gas cleaning equipment at the Works’ sinter machines is carried out within the framework of Trilateral Agreement, signed between «Zaporizhstal» JSC, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine and Zaporozhye Regional Council. Investments into the erection of the gas cleaning equipment of sinter machine No.2 make up over UAH 80 million.
«In spite of the very complicated economic situation in Ukraine, we continue at full speed our investment program. Since August, 2012 we have invested over USD 220 million into modernization of the Works, and it concerns, first of all, reduction of emissions into atmos-phere. All the funds which are now being invested in revamping and modernization of the Works, are directed exactly to the ecological modernization of «Zaporozhstal», noted Rostyslav Shurma, General Director of «Zaporozhstal» Steel Works.
In particular, the funds have been invested in the installation of the new gas cleaning system of sinter machine No.1, in revamping of Blast Furnace No.4, equipped with the aspiration system at the cast yard and stock house of the furnace, in erection of the new hydrochloric acid pickling line, which would permit to decrease industrial water discharge into Dnieper river by 83% and to reduce sulfuric acid fumes emission into atmosphere.
Expenses on installation of gas cleaning equipment of sinter machine № 2 would amount to 80 million UAH. The best part of the gas cleaning equipment and metal structures for erection arrived at the Steel Works, foundation works had been completed, erection of metal structures and gas cleaning equipment are in active phase. . At this time, 70 tons of metal structures had been installed using the labor of contractor organization.The principal supplier of gas cleaning equipment and metal structures for gas cleaning machine № 2 is Ukrainian company LLC”ProgressGroup” (Berdichev machine building plant “Progress”), part of equipment (exhauster) is supplied by REITZ company (Germany).
Principle and unique character of operation of gas cleaning machine № 2 consists of multi-staged cleaning of exhaust gases: gas is cleaned in bag filters, trapped iron containing dust from bag filters is sent back to sinter production. After that, the gases containing maximum concentration of sulphur dioxide are cleaned with the help of reactor. After the reactor, the gas is sent to bag filter for the final cleaning. The new gas cleaning equipment of sinter machine № 2 would provide elimination of dust from air – lower 50 mg/m3, from sulphur dioxide – lower 400 mg/m3, that would match to European standards of emissions, and would permit stage-by-stage to decrease the discharge of slime waters from sinter plant recirculation system.
