OSCE MISSION IS CONCERNED ABOUT EVENTS WHICH TOOK PLACE AT “ZAPOROZHSTAL” STEEL WORKS ON OCTOBER 15, 2014

On October 17, 2014 upon an initiative of international organization OSCE, within the framework of activities on monitoring the situation in the Eastern regions of Ukraine, the representatives of OSCE mission Born Funnemark (Norway) and Filippo Di Daniely (Italy) held the working meeting with CEO of “Zaporozhstal” Steel Works Rostyslav Shurma with the purpose of investigation of events, which took place on October 15, 2014.

During the meeting, Rostislav Shurma, the CEO of “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works has informed representatives of the mission of OSCE about the details of blocking of entrances of the Steel Works by the unknown persons under flags of the “Pravyi Sector”. Shurma during the meeting with representatives of mission of OSCE esteemed these events. In particular, “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works estimates blocking of the industrial complex by radical elements, as attempt to loosen a situation in the city and Zaporozhye region. Such actions are destabilising and lead to heating up a social tension in the region.

During the meeting, Rostislav Shurma, the CEO of “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works has informed representatives of the mission of OSCE about the “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works operate in a normal operations mode.

It was also agreed at the meeting with the representatives of OSCE, that additional visit to “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works would take place in order to review the progress of ecological modernization of the enterprise.

All information on the situation will be reflected in the corresponding report of the OSCE mission.

It bears reminding that on October, 15th, 2014, a group of 100-150 radical masked men with flags of the “Pravyi Sector” were blocking entrance of “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works for several hours, using environmental campaign slogans to justify their actions.

The given event has received wide publicity among mass-media and the public at regional, national and international levels and has caused disquietude of representatives of the international organization, that became a reason for visit of representatives of mission of OSCE.

The “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works commits considerable investments into ecological projects. For the last 2 years the “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works invested over 250 million dollars into ecological modernisation of the industrial complex.
