Metinvest Group’s Zaporizhstal will create a series of street art pieces dedicated to Ukrainian heroes of different times at its site and in Zaporizhzhia as part of the art project “Every One Of Us Is A Hero! Everyone Creates Modern History”. The idea will come to life thanks to famous Ukrainian muralist Sashko Korban.
Titled “Every One Of Us Is A Hero! Everyone Creates Modern History”, the joint project of Zaporizhstal and Sashko Korban involves the creation of a series of murals of prominent Ukrainians on the premises of Zaporizhstal’s industrial facilities and other infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia. The project aims to preserve the national memory of Ukrainian heroes and to emphasise that just like the prominent historical figures centuries ago, each and every one of our contemporaries is creating an independent, sovereign and peaceful future for Ukraine.
The project plans to depict iconic historical figures, statesmen and cultural figures, scientists, as well as new heroes – Ukrainians who are now bringing Ukraine’s victory closer on their own front line.
“With this project, we assert that every one of us is a hero who is shaping the new Ukraine, cherishing the achievements of great Ukrainians. Throughout its 90-year history, Zaporizhstal has always worked for the good of Zaporizhzhia and Ukraine, and has been and is still a reliable pillar for the state in its most difficult times. Every Zaporizhstal employee who strengthens the country and brings the Victory closer with their work and who supports the heroes of the modern Ukrainian state – the Ukrainian Armed Forces – deserves recognition and respect. Today, it is essential to appreciate, remember and multiply the contribution of every Ukrainian to the creation of modern history and, following the footsteps of great Ukrainians, to build a future Ukraine: strong, free and independent,” said Roman Slobodianiuk, General Director of Metinvest Group’s Zaporizhstal.
Sashko Korban, a well-known Ukrainian muralist who is originally from the Donbas region, has emerged as a project artist. His works can be seen in cities across Ukraine, Italy, Georgia, and Turkey. The unique paintings created by the master will complement and aesthetically enhance Zaporizhzhia and Zaporizhstal’s industrial buildings. His first artwork painted on Zaporizhstal’s cold rolling shop building depicts Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, the founder and first head of the Ukrainian Cossack state, a talented military leader and diplomat.
As a reminder, Zaporizhstal and Metinvest will create Ukraine’s first interactive exhibition about the Russian-Ukrainian war in Zaporizhzhia, focusing on its key role as a city of strength, victory and courage. The Rethinking Space will combine a unique museum exhibition with 11 themed halls using immersive technologies, an open-air lecture hall with the ability to view multimedia products on a large screen, an exhibition hall, a Zone of Remembrance of Heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for Ukraine, as well as other locations that are important for understanding the role of Zaporizhzhia in the war and the future Victory.
