Rinat Akhmetov and Vadim Novinsky’s Metinvest Group is providing support to Zaporizhia, where four of the Company’s enterprises are located – Zaporizhstal, Zaporizhia Coke, Zaporozhogneupor, Zaporizhia Casting and Mechanical Plant. Since the beginning of the war, Zaporizhia has also become a hub where the residents of the cities most affected by the Russian aggression are evacuated.
Despite the fact that Zaporizhzhia enterprises are temporarily mothballed due to active hostilities in the region, they continue working, ensuring the humanitarian mission of Metinvest in Zaporizhia. In particular, the Metinvest Humanitarian Mission Coordination Center in Zaporizhzhia is taking part in the creation of strategic stocks of provision in Zaporizhzhia. The city will create a stock of wheat, and Metinvest will buy additional 1,000 tons of grain and help to arrange its delivery to the city.
“The Metinvest Humanitarian Mission Coordination Center in Zaporizhia, jointly with the local authorities, is taking proactive measures aimed at preventing any crises in the city, including humanitarian ones. We are jointly developing solutions aimed at protecting the residents of Zaporizhzhia in this very difficult time. In terms of creating strategic stocks of provision in Zaporizhzhia, Metinvest and the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation are involved in the formation of a grain stock for the city. Zaporizhstal also has extensive experience in organizing logistics, so we are participating in the delivery of vital provisions to the city as well. I truly believe that the city will not face a terrible experience of a humanitarian crisis or some painful restrictions, but we must be ready for any scenario and care about every resident of Zaporizhia,” said Alexander Myronenko, Head of the Metinvest Humanitarian Coordination Center in Zaporizhia and General Director of Zaporizhstal.
Up to 40 heavy trucks transport wheat to the city every day. In total, they transport up to 350 tons of grain per day to a specially equipped storage facility. During the curfew, grain delivery has been suspended; it will be resumed on Monday, March 21.
