The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation continues the all-Ukrainian project “Ask the Doctor”. These are weekly online meetings with leading Ukrainian medical experts on the Foundation’s digital platforms. During live broadcasts, everyone can ask the invited doctor about various aspects of the COVID-19 problem and get a clear, reasoned answer that can be 100% trusted. “Ask the doctor” is clear answers to difficult questions.
Leading specialists of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine – immunologists, anesthesiologists, resuscitators, infectious disease specialists – act as project experts. This is the medical elite of the country, doctors who thoroughly know their section of medicine and the latest global trends in it. The guest of the next broadcast was the infectious disease doctor, head of the department of the inpatient medical center of the State Emergency Service Evgenia Menzhulina.
According to the doctor, the current situation with the coronavirus epidemic is fundamentally different from the events of 2020.
“We can already say that we have learned how to treat COVID-19. Of course, the virus continues to deceive us and play its game. However, we are not unarmed. We have antiviral therapy. Vaccine policies are being pursued around the world and further development of vaccines continues. A lot of experience in monitoring patients has been gained, and this allows us to work further, no longer being afraid of the previous challenges,” – emphasized Evgenia Menzhulina.
The expert also spoke about what became surprising during the coronavirus research. First of all, it is the rate of its mutations.
“At the same time, the aggressiveness of the coronavirus remains. As a rule, the more people become infected, the less active the virus is. In this case, everything happened exactly the opposite. However, we do not see intraviral competition. For
the second year in a row, there has been no peak influenza circulation. COVID does not yet give it a chance to be active,” the doctor explained.
Yevgeniya Menzhulina shared her opinion about the prospects for Ukraine after the New Year holidays. According to her, we should not succumb to excessive optimism:
– I would like the features of the virus to come to their logical end. Unfortunately, I think that after the holidays we will still have to fight. Many people will want to go somewhere or to visit friends and relatives. The only hope is that these will be cases of mild or moderate severity.
Since the start of the broadcasting of “Ask the Doctor” on digital platforms of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, the content of the project has been watched more than 21 million times. Previously, experts of live broadcasts were such renowned experts as the famous cardiac surgeon Boris Todurov; Yekaterina Amosova, a cardiologist, corresponding member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and member of the European Society of Cardiology; Oleg Chaban, a psychiatrist, doctor of medical sciences and professor; Sergey Dubrov, president of the Association of Anesthesiologists of Ukraine, etc.
“Ask the Doctor” is a part of the “Fighting COVID-19 in Ukraine” project. In total, Rinat Akhmetov allocated about UAH 500 million to fight the coronavirus. Thanks to this, the Foundation helped about 1.5 million people to survive.
