A mass sporting event for Zaporizhzhya citizens was held on the occasion of the 35th birthday of PJSC “Zaporizhstal” Sports Complex on the 26th of February.
The indoor track was put to service on the 23rd of February, 1981. Nowadays the track is a sports field-and-track centre of Ukraine, where Ukrainian championships and international track-and-field tournaments are held. The sports complex of the Integrated Works is an official training base of the national track-and-field team in accordance with the Memorandum of Cooperation between the sports complex and the Ukrainian Athletics Federation.
PJSC “Zaporizhstal” allocated over UAH 3 million for refurbishment of the indoor track in 2015. In total, PJSC “Zaporizhstal” channeled UAH 10.9 million for maintenance and development of the sports track.
PJSC “Zaporizhstal” supports Zaporizhzhya athletes from the national team by paying them scholarships. These are runners Olesia Povkh, Mariia Riemien, Anastasiia Tkachuk, Ielyzaveta Babii, javelin thrower Hanna Gatsko, all-rounders Oleksii Kasianov and Hanna Melnychenko etc. 6 athletes with scholarships from PJSC “Zaporizhstal” have been qualified for participation in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games and have high chances for becoming part of the Ukrainian Olympic team.
Employees of the Integrated Works “Zaporizhstal” and members of their families are working out and engaging in sports activities at the indoor track. Track-and-field trainees of SDUShOR (Specialized Children and Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve), physically challenged athletes from “Invasport”, athletes in artistic gymnastics from SDUShOR and other sports organizations are practicing at the indoor track free of charge.
