Zaporizhstal of Metinvest Group has launched a major overhaul of blast furnace No. 4 according to the enterprise’s investment programme. The total cost of repair works will exceed UAH 92 million.
The blast furnace No. 4 has been shut down for a grade 3 repair since May 19. The key works to be performed as a part of the renewal include replacing the three-cone loading machine, repairing the casthouse equipment, the charger feeding system, and key units of the air heater, etc. The works will last for 8 days.
As a part of the major overhaul, it is planned to carry out technical maintenance of the dedusting system of the casthouse and the stockhouse of blast furnace No. 4 to ensure reliable operation of environmental protection equipment during furnace operation. It should be noted that the furnace received an efficient cleaning unit as part of a major reconstruction in 2014.
Experienced specialists from the blast furnace shop, Metinvest-Promservice, Zaporozhogneupor, and Etalonbudservice are engaged to perform the major overhaul.
Note that Zaporizhstal, as a part of environmental modernisation programme, systematically invests in reconstruction and maintenance projects at its main production facilities. The enterprise has allocated approximately UAH 5 billion to upgrade blast furnaces, key components, and units of blast furnace processing since 2012.
Upgrading and maintaining the enterprise’s main production facilities and environmental protection equipment is a systematic part of the enterprise’s work. Earlier this year, Zaporizhstal blew in blast furnace No. 2 after a major overhaul, the enterprise spent more than UAH 85 million to upgrade the blast furnace.
During the full-scale war in 2022-2023, Zaporizhstal invested over 1.2 billion to upgrade production equipment and treatment facilities that operate as a single set. During the full-scale invasion, the programme focused on maintaining and updating equipment to ensure its stable and reliable operation in unforeseen conditions.
