The Widespread Event "The Green City" has brought together more than 500 employees and residents of Zaporozhye to engage in a community-driven cleanliness initiative across various districts of the city.

More than 500 employees of JSC “Zaporizhstal", PJSC "Zaporozhogneupor" and PJSC "Zaporozhkoks", as well as inhabitants of Zaporozhye have organized and realized the city subbotnik in different districts of the city - in the park named after Kirov, in the territory of boarding school "Oberig", and on house land plots of veterans of these enterprises.

During the subbotnik, employees of the enterprises and inhabitants made efforts in cutting-off and heading-off the trees, and cleaning the territory. They cleared the park named after Kirov from felled trees and dead wood, and removed around 90 tons of domestic garbage, dead limbs, and foliage. This event marks the second time this year that such actions have been taken in the park; volunteers had already cleared it of rubbish, dead limbs, and felled tree stems in the spring.

After completion of the event, participants accepted the appeal to city authorities, urging them to support the initiative for further city subbotniks aimed at pollution control and housekeeping. A total of 400 participants signed the appeal.

«We expect that we will set a rhythm to all Zaporozhye and its inhabitants - to keep our favourite resting places clean and tidy. We hope very much that the city authorities will pay attention to how far Zaporozhye recently has wallowed in rubbish» - pointed out Sergey Ilchenko, the leader of a youth wing of JSC "Zaporizhstal." He continued, «If we take the park named after Kirov, we established order here in the spring, but only 5 months have passed and people are again afraid to visit the park due to dirt, heaps of rubbish, uncut trees, broken branches, and tree trunks. We urge city authorities to ensure the cleanliness and order of our city’s resting places that became clean after such volunteering actions.»

Additionally, participants of the subbotnik cleaned and arranged the territory near the boarding school "Oberig". In just a few hours, volunteers cleared foliage, dug up the earth in front gardens, arranged flowerbeds, planted trees and bushes, put benches, and painted the fence around the establishment.

Furthermore, as winter frosts approach, employees of the enterprises have helped veterans by tidying up their house land plots, removing leaves, digging up the sites, and cleaning leaching cesspools.
