The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine positively evaluates the efforts of Zaporizhstal JSC in respect of reduction of emissions of harmful substances into atmosphere. In 2009 it reduced dust emissions by1,603 thousand tons and emissions of gaseous impurities by 10,374 thousand tons. The Cabinet of Ministers urges the Works to realize ecological projects more actively.
As the first Vice prime minister of Ukraine Andrey Klyuyev informed at the opening of the International ecological forum “Dovkillja-2010”, at present a number of national projects have been declared for realization, and along with the economic problems the first and the most important problem announced by the government is the problem of ecology. As he said, an example of introduction of ecological projects at an enterprise is Zaporizhstal JSC.
The first Vice prime minister underlined, having got familiarized with the modernized enterprise: “The sky is the limit. Life in the country should become cleaner and cleaner”.
The program of retooling and modernization of Zaporizhstal JSC has been worked out up to 2017 and its main task is transition to converter steel production.
The deputy chief of the laboratory for preservation of environment at Zaporizhstal JSC Roman Kiryanov noted, that the enterprise is carrying out work on all aspects of nature protection activities: from modernization to commissioning of new, less energy-intensive equipment with obligatory implementation of nature protection systems.
“We clean gas, water, air, and have considerably lowered the emissions, which at present are lower than the established norms. For example, on blast furnaces aspiration of the casting yard is installed, thereby the emissions into atmosphere have decreased several thousand tons a year. Another example, equipment installation for cleaning effluent gas on all six sintering machines of the Works”, — explained R. Kiryanov.
In return the minister of the Cabinet of Ministers, the forum coordinator Anatoliy Tolstoukhov noted, that the experience of all the Ukrainian enterprises is being summed up to analyze positive and negative examples.
“At present the European community expects from Ukraine a number of documents such as, strategy of national ecological policy which is under consideration in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The following document will be the concept of steady progression. Europe is to understand that it is possible to talk to us in the order of strategic cooperation, and not only about situational environmental problems”, — added A. Tolstoukhov.
Zaporizhstal JSC continuously takes part in international ecological exhibitions. In particular, at the ХIII International ecological exhibition “Ecology-2010”, which took place in the period 13-16 April 2010 at the Exhibition Center of Ukraine (Kiev), it was noted that Zaporizhstal JSC has lowered specific emissions per ton of produced steel: at the beginning of the current year they amounted to 17,6 kg/ton. In 2000 this indicator reached 22,3 kg/ton. The general reduction of emissions of harmful substances into atmosphere in the period 2007-2009 amounts to 20,872 thousand tons, in terms of percentage points by 26,6 %.
