160 applications from the libraries, schools, OSMD (condominium), philanthropic, municipal, medical, sport and community institutions of Zaporozhye city had been submitted for participation in the “We are the City” contest. In 2015, «Zaporizhstal» SW allocated UAH 1.5 million for realization of the projects made by the con-test winners (in 2014, the programme budget made up UAH 1.1 million).
«Zaporizhstal» SW arranges the contest named «We are the City» for the third year running, starting with 2013. Every year, this contest generates an acute interest among the citizens of Zaporozhye, over hundred participants sub-mitted their applications for the contest (in 2013 – 130 applications, in 2014 – 123 applications, 2015 – 160 applica-tions). The Works allocates grants for the best social projects – winners for their realization in amount from UAH 50 to UAH 100 thousand (in 2013 – 15 winners, in 2014 – 17 social projects – winners).
The aim of the contest «We are the City» – is: jointly with the active city and region residents to increase life quality in Zaporozhye region by means of realization of the joint social projects. Besides, the contest has training function as well – the Works organizes training courses in social projecting for all the participants and for all interested citizens of Zaporozhye. For three years, about 1000 people took part in these training courses.
«Activity of the residents in Zaporozhye land has significantly risen this year. This is an index of healthy, conscious society of concerned initiative people, that, relying on their own efforts, want to make our city better, more comfortable and more beautiful», – noted the Head of the Expert Council of the contest «We are the City», Chief Engineer of «Zaporizhstal» SW Vladimir Buryak.
The subjects of the social projects, submitted to the contest, are different, and they concern different aspects of the city’s life: improvement and arranging recreation areas in Zaporozhye; culture, education, sport; supporting of volunteers’ movement and patriotic upbringing of future generation.
By the end of May, all submitted applications will undergo an experts’ check-up and they will be studied by an experts’ council. Then, the semi-finalists will deliver presentations of their projects in front of the experts’ council members, who will appreciate them according to the approved criteria: being in demand and vividness, development degree of the project idea, ingenuity, social significance and project stability after financing completion.
