«Zaporizhstal» Steel Works announces the start- up of the contest “We are the city” for the best social project, in which non-governmental organizations, municipal institutions and local citizens of Zaporozhye city and region could take part. In 2015 the Steel Works increases the financing of the contest on implementation of the social initiatives -1,5 million UAH, (in 2014 – 1,1 million UAH), winners of the contest could receive the grant for developing of their ideas – from 50 to 100 thousand UAH.
«Zaporizhstal» Steel Works arranges the contest per the programs of corporate social responsibility of Metinvest Group, beginning from 2013. Annually, applications for participation in the contest are submitted by hundreds of participants, in 2013 there were 15 winners, in 2014 there were 17 social projects winners.
The purpose of the contest “We are the city” – is attracting as much as possible number of active citizens of the city and region, for the implementation of social projects, directed on raising the quality of living in Zaporozhye region.
«I am sure, all citizens of Zaporozhye want, that our city would become more clean, more beautiful, and better with every coming year. This contest has a unique nature, because it permits to any citizen of Zaporozhye to implement its ideas, each active and non-indifferent city dweller has unlimited possibilities to determine independently, in what way it is better to improve the city, make it aesthetically attractive and comfortable for living, for recreation and raising of children. Novelty of this year contest – we increased the financing and new direction appeared in it – support of volunteer services and patriotic education of the rising generation. In fact, patriotic color, and Ukrainian national idea indigenously was put down into the history of our Kozaks land, and in recent time, these are the standing points for Zaporozhye citizens, big-hearted, sincere, charitable people” – said Vladymir Buryak chairman of the contest’s expert counsel “We are the city”, chief engineer of “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works.
In this year, the contest is arranged in three ways: urban land improvement and setting up of recreation areas; culture, education, sport; support of volunteer services and patriotic education of rising generation. Receiving of applications will continue till May 1, 2015. In April 2015, the contest organizers would carry out some actions, during which it could be possible to familiarize with the conditions and special aspects of the contest “We are the city” in 2015, to communicate with the winners of previous years, and also to meet the experts in the field of implementation of social programs.
Within two years of arranging the contest “We are the city”, in infrastructure of Zaporozhye, there were set up 12 athletic grounds, children’s play grounds, street gymnastics and weight lifting machines, there had been arranged three expeditions “Wonderful Khortitsa” for the children from needy families. Besides, interesting cultural projects appeared in the city – “Kozaks forging house” near Zaporozhye Oak tree, “Land of Fairy tales” with sculptures of fairy tale characters in Oak Trees Grove, art painting of house-fronts of residence buildings in densely populated areas of the city. Quite a number of projects were directed for the aid to aged people and veterans – these are the free of charge cataract surgery, computer education school in Zaporozhye gymnasium № 45, for the aged people, providing of medical devices to veterans of war.
