In December of 2014 PJSC “Zaporizhstal” began improvement of the territory of Markusova Valley (the so-called “city dumps” or “Black mountain”), intended for construction of the Works’ Oxygen Converter Shop. PJSC “Zaporizhstal” removed over 300 thousand tonnes of materials and gangue from its section of the valley over 9 months. At the present moment, these works are suspended, because city authorities have not confirmed a new General development plan for city of Zaporizhzhya, which provides for construction of a new bypass road through the dumps territory and for improvement of their municipal part.
Earlier city authorities concluded a contract with Yu.M. Bilokon Ukrainian State Research Institute for City Design “Dipromisto” for development of a new General development plan for city of Zaporizhzhya. It should be noted that in 2015 PJSC “Zaporizhstal” helped the city to pay for 50% of the planning works cost amounting to over UAH 210 thousand. However, the General development plan for city of Zaporizhzhya has not been developed yet, because Zaporizhzhya Mayor’s Office has not handed over necessary design data in full to “Dnipromisto”. At the present moment, city authorities follow the General development plan, developed in 2003.
PJSC “Zaporizhstal” considers it expedient for the city authorities to make a key decision on the new General development plan for city of Zaporizhzhya, which provides for construction of a new bypass road through the dumps territory and for improvement of the whole Markusova Valley territory, as well as to stop politicalizing the issue of the city dumps improvement. On its part, PJSC “Zaporizhstal” is ready to proceed with works on cleaning and improvement of the Markusova Valley territory, to help the city in construction of the bypass road, and to bear all costs on creating green zone in the municipal part of the valley.
We would also like to inform you that earlier “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works organized 24-hour security for the municipal part of the valley at the request of Zaporizhzhya mayor. The Works currently guard this area, there are no unauthorized persons on the territory, and there are no works conducted there.
