Metinvest Group’s Zaporizhstal iron and steel works continues to expand its product portfolio. In 2023, the steelworks started producing 14 new products for Ukrainian and foreign customers.
“When a manufacturer responds to the market demand by expanding its product line, it demonstrates flexibility and customer focus of the business as well as the professionalism of the team. So, in 2023, Zaporizhstal launched 14 new products and shipped nearly 110,000 tonnes of the new products to customers. We remain committed to expanding the product portfolio, so we continue to work in this direction,” Roman Slobodianiuk, General Director of Zaporizhstal, wrote on his Facebook page.
The Ukrainian steelmaker’s product mix was expanded in several segments: in particular, the company launched seven new types of hot-rolled and two types of cold-rolled products, as well as five types of semi-finished products. Zaporizhstal’s new products will be mainly used in the construction and engineering industries.
In 2023, Zaporizhstal focused on the production of products that Metinvest’s steelworks in Mariupol had been producing before the full-scale invasion. Zaporizhstal’s experts mastered the manufacturing technology to produce cold-rolled coils from the structural steel grades S320GD and S350GD for galvanising. In addition, Zaporizhstal started producing the S355J2 grade coils according to the European standard EN 10025-2 and its Ukrainian equivalent DSTU EN 10025-2. The products were tested and received a certificate of conformity of the factory control system from the international certification body Dedal. The hot-rolled products of the same steel grade have already been successfully supplied to Poland, Romania and other European countries.
Zaporizhstal also started producing the S235, S275 and S355 grade slabs of various sizes. These products are supplied to Metinvest’s European companies to be rolled into hot-rolled plates and coils.
In general, Metinvest Group’s Ukrainian steelmakers launched 25 new products in 2023. Most of the new products are semi-finished products, hot-rolled coils and sections, as well as cold-rolled and galvanised coils.
