The Best Young Production Workers of the Zaporizhzhia Region were Named at the WorldSkills Ukraine Competition

In Zaporizhzhia, the regional selection of the all-Ukrainian competition WorldSkills Ukraine for working professions was held. Metinvest has been the general partner of the Olympiad among blue-collar workers since 2018. On January 19 and 20, young people competed in professional skills, and today in the Kozak-Palace they summed up the results and named the leaders of the regional selection who will represent the Zaporizhzhia region in the final of the competition in spring.

The organizers of the competition in Ukraine are the Ministry of Education and Science, DNU “Institute for the Modernization of the Content of Education” and the Federation of Employers of Ukraine. Metinvest Group is the general sponsor and partner of the WorldSkills Ukraine competition. For the second year running, the Company conducts regional selections and sponsors technical professions.

“In recent years, working professions have lost prestige in society. Restoring this prestige and increasing the importance of these professions is the top priority for Metinvest Group. To do this, we invest in the modernization of production, the construction of new types of production from scratch, the introduction of the latest automated technologies. We are waiting for people with progressive views who know how to work with modern equipment at our enterprises. I hope that such career guidance competitions will help young people make the right choice of profession,” said Yury Ryzhenkov, General Director of Metinvest Group.

To date, the qualifying stage of WorldSkills Ukraine 2021-2022 passed all regions of Ukraine except Khmelnitsky. The qualifying stage in the Zaporizhzhia region was supposed to take place at the end of October, but due to the transition of the region into the red quarantine zone, it was postponed to January.

73 participants of institutions of professional and vocational higher education of the Zaporizhzhia region, as well as working young professionals under the age of 22 competed in 8 competencies: turning, electrical installation, metalwork, brick laying, lifting and transporting goods, operation and maintenance of railway transport, welding and hairdressing art.

For them, production equipment was installed on the basis of Kozak-Palace and interactive locations were built. Participants performed tasks as close as possible to production ones. Competent judges and leading industry experts observed the process and evaluated the participants.

“Over 7 years of WorldSkills Ukraine has managed to establish itself not only as a platform for recognizing professional talent, but also as a place where young people can get acquainted with the best employers in the country. Thanks to the friendly and warm atmosphere inherent in WorldSkills Ukraine, participants exchange impressions and thoughts among themselves. I am glad that every year the WorldSkills family is only expanding, and the competition is gaining momentum throughout the country,” said Olga Koval, Head of the Subcommittee on Vocational and Vocational Higher Education of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Education, Science and Innovation.

Today, on January 21, the official closing of the regional stage and the awarding of winners took place. The awards were presented to the winners by Alexander Mironenko, General Director of Zaporizhstal of Metinvest Group.

It should be noted that Metinvest Group pays great attention to the development and promotion of vocational education in Ukraine.
