The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and DTEK have purchased oxygen concentrators OLV-10 and handed them over to the Botieve outpatient clinic. With this modern equipment, medical staff will be able to save lives of people with severe COVID-19 complications. The concentrators are user-friendly, can serve two patients at a time, and are available for use immediately following their set-up. It is essential amid the pandemic, as the vital help is needed right here, right now.
“When the COVID-19 pandemic hit Ukraine, Rinat Akhmetov was the first to give a helping hand. He allocated around UAH 500 million towards COVID-19 Fight in Ukraine project, a part of the Rinat Akhmetov – Saving Lives programme. The base hospitals across the country promptly received 216 ventilators, over 300 rapid lateral flow tests, more than 200 units of personal safety equipment and consumables, as well as 159 oxygen concentrators. Overall, the Foundation helped 500+ medical institutions country-wide,” shares Iryna Blazhan, Head of the Foundation Programmes.
It was the staff of the medical institution and representatives of the local government authorities who identified the need for the equipment in the outpatient clinic in Botieve (Zaporizhia Oblast), where wind farms of DTEK Renewables are based. Currently, the clinic serves over 2,000 residents from seven villages. As the number of COVID-19 cases is growing exponentially, the community raised the issue of oxygen concentrators for the clinic.
“This clearly demonstrates that it is vitally important to join the efforts of local authorities, businesses, and communities to fight the pandemic. As far back as last year, following the decision of its founder Rinat Akhmetov, the Foundation was the first in the country to respond to the global threat of coronavirus. The organization joined efforts with DTEK and other SCM businesses to donate about UAH 500 million to the fight against COVID-19. We continue to support the medical facilities in Zaporizhia Oblast. Today we are handing over oxygen concentrators to the outpatient clinic in Botieve village to help doctors save patients with severe COVID-19 complications,” says Maris Kunickis, CEO of DTEK Renewables.
The doctors claim that the available hospital equipment cannot provide the volume of oxygen required to treat all patients who may need oxygen therapy.
“The situation in Pryazovske community is getting worse every day, and Zaporizhia Oblast has already entered the red zone for high infection rates. For this very reason, we must be ready to provide oxygen therapy to those who need it. The new oxygen concentrators will be installed in a day hospital and physiotherapeutic room in Botieve outpatient clinic. The new equipment will make it easier for us to help patients with severe COVID-19,” says the Chief of Pryazovske First Aid and Emergency Medical Services Centre Liudmyla Izyanova.
The COVID-19 Fight in Ukraine project is the most substantial, systemic, and extensive private initiative aimed to help the public medical institutions fight the new disease. The scale of this support effort is unprecedented, and the project has improved the quality of healthcare services in the country.
