«Zaporizhstal» SW had shut down Blast Furnace No.2 (BF-2), with working volume of 1513 cubic meters, its daily average output makes up about 3200 tons of iron, for extended second grade overhaul repair with revamping works. Duration of the overhaul repair of the furnace will take approximately 60 days, it is planned to involve up to 1500 people for performing repair at the Works. Financing of the repair will make up about UAH 200 million.
The main purpose of overhaul repair of DP-2, which will be held within the framework of revamping and modernization of production facilities, is the restoration of resource and the design characteristics, improving the reliability of the Blast Furnace, improving the product quality, energy efficiency. Besides, the overhaul repair provides for a substantial upgrading of the aspiration system of the furnace, in order to improve the environmental performance of the production line. In particular, after revamping, the environmental characteristics of production unit for dust emissions from the flue gases at the furnace exit will be improved.
“The amount required for the project realization is UAH 200 million. This is a significant amount for the Works, which is now operating in extremely difficult economic conditions, as well as the whole mining and metallurgical industry of Ukraine. Nevertheless, we continue investing in the modernization of our equipment because we fully aware of that are the jobs and salaries for not only our employees, but also for our contractors”, said the General Director of “Zaporizhstal” Rostyslav Shurma.
During the overhaul of the furnace, they will perform replacement of the air ducts and repair of the furnace aspiration system; complete replacement of the refractory lining of the furnace using the most modern materials; replacement of the staves at the furnace stack with installation of two rows of copper coolers made by “Paul Wurth (Luxembourg)” Company. In the course of the overhaul, they will replace the top-charging device; furnace cooling system will be reconstructed, the facilities of the foundry yard will be upgraded.
The total weight of the metallic structures erected at BF-2 will make up about 1 thousand tons, weight of refractories – 1.5 thousand tons.
Repair is performed by specialists jointly with contractors and design organizations. The General contractor of the overhaul repair of Blast Furnace No.2 is “Zaporozhye Construction & Erection Management” LLC.
