JSC “Zaporizhstal” announced beginning of the contest “We Are the City” in April of this year. The contest aroused great interest and caused activity of many citizens, representatives of non-profit, sports organizations, educational and cultural institutions. Practically each of the presented projects contains interesting ideas and is related to promotion of healthy lifestyle, popularization of sports activities, development of educational, cultural, creative initiatives, support of vulnerable segments of the population, environmental protection, development of business environment, creation of new jobs.
With the assistance of Rinat Akhmetov’s charity foundation “Development of Ukraine”, a training on social project planning was held within the framework of the contest “We Are the City” for all participants. Over 100 citizens participated in the training.
“The contest “We Are the City” is of vital importance with the current situation in Ukraine. We must build together, provide help and support to those who need it by combining our best endeavors for the good of our country’s future”, stated the General Director of “Zaporizhstal” Integrated Iron and Steel Works Rostislav Shurma.
On the 20th May 2013 began second stage of the contest, in the course of which the members of expert committee will carry out technical examination of the projects. Based on the results of examination, the members of expert committee will determine the winners of the contest, who will receive a grant in the amount from 50 thousand UAH to 100 thousand UAH for implementation of their social initiatives. The total amount of the contest funding in 2014 was increased to 1 million UAH. The projects will be assessed by the expert board according to approved criteria which are being in demand and being realistic, the extent to which the project idea is developed, originality, social significance, project sustainability after the completion of financing, the main criterion being originality and exclusivity of the project.
The contest “We Are the City” is held in Zaporizhzhya along with Metinvest’s contest “We Improve the City”, that takes place in nine cities in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and Luhansk regions. It is focused on improving social activism of the population and supporting relevant projects, aimed at improving the quality of life in all cities where Metinvest operates. In 2014 the contest makes provision for implementation of the projects oriented in new directions which are environmental care, development of business environments and creation of new jobs
