In the period of May 31 to June 2, 2018 in Zaporozhye, based on the “Metallurg” Sports School, a football tournament in the name of the Hero of Ukraine V.A. Satsky was held with the support of Zaporizhstal Works. One hundred and sixty young football players from Zaporozhye, Odessa, Kropiwnicki and Sumy took part in the competition.
The players aged 13-14 years fought for leadership with their rivals for three days. As a result of the tournament, the third place was occupied by the team “Shakhtar-1” Donetsk, the second place – “Barca” Sumy, the first place was awarded to the team “Metallurg”, Zaporozhye.
“Zaporizhstal” systematically supports the Youth Sports School “Metallurg”. The Works fully equipped pupils and coaching staff of the school with a football uniform and sports equipment. In 2018, the Works already financed the school with UAH 4.2 million. Totally, in 2018 to support the school, Zaporizhstal will send UAH 8.5 million.
Looking back, the children’s soccer school of Zaporozhye “Metallurg” in early 2016 was threatened with extinction: in connection with the liquidation of the team, funding for the school also ceased. Several hundred children were evicted from the school grounds, the question arose whether the teams could finish the championship of the children’s and youth football league of Ukraine.
To preserve the long-standing traditions of youth football in Zaporozhye, the decision of the city council created the Youth Sports School “Metallurg”, while Zaporizhstal financed the team of the children’s and youth sports school to participate in the championship of the children’s and youth football league of Ukraine, as well as in the matches of the final part of the tournament. In addition, thanks to the help of Zaporizhstal Works, a full-fledged training process has been organized for all the teams of the Sports School “Metallurg”.
