A mural by the famous Ukrainian muralist Sashko Korban was presented at Zaporizhstal. The third mural in the series “Every One Of Us Is A Hero! Everyone Creates Modern History” is dedicated to the economic front heroes – metallurgists.
The new mural, located on the territory of the enterprise, depicts modern blast furnace workers at the blast furnace hearth. It was the blast furnace workers who started the great history of Zaporizhstal 90 years ago, producing the first Zaporizhzhia pig iron on 16 November 1933. The mural represents the collective image of the entire team of the enterprise, its unbreakable strength and steel endurance. It is also a token of appreciation to Zaporizhstal’s patriots for their devotion to their profession: despite all the challenges, the enterprise works for the economy, produces almost half of all Ukrainian steel, supports the army, replenishes the budget, and implements reconstruction projects in Zaporizhzhia.
“Today, everyone who is fighting or working is defending Ukraine. Zaporizhstal’s steelmakers are guarding the country’s economy and contributing their contribution to the approach of victory. Under alarms and shelling, we convert our rage against the enemy and love for the country into support for defenders and civilians, at the front and in the rear. This mural is dedicated to the patriots of their native enterprise, who at all times – especially in dark and difficult ones – hold the line, because they know the value and importance of their work for the city and the country,” said Roman Slobodianiuk, CEO of Zaporizhstal.
This is the third of the street art pieces created on the territory of the enterprise by Sashko Korban as part of the project “Every One Of Us Is A Hero! Everyone Creates Modern History” dedicated to Ukrainian heroes of different times.
The artist of the project is the well-known Ukrainian muralist Sashko Korban, whose paintings adorn the cities of Ukraine, Italy, Georgia and Turkey.
“While working on the mural, I had the opportunity to communicate with Zaporizhstal’s metallurgists. These are courageous, unbreakable, dedicated people, real heroes who, along with the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, medics, power engineers, and volunteers, are bringing the country closer to our Victory. For metallurgists, their work is a duty, for me it is an inspiration for murals,” said muralist and artist Sashko Korban.
It’s worth reminding that the joint project of Zaporizhstal and Sashko Korban, “Every One Of Us Is A Hero! Everyone Creates Modern History” was launched on the eve of the enterprise’s 90th anniversary and includes a series of murals of prominent Ukrainians at the Works’ industrial facilities and other infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia. The project aims to preserve the national memory of Ukrainian heroes and to emphasise that just like the prominent historical figures centuries ago, each and every one of our contemporaries is creating an independent, sovereign and peaceful future for Ukraine.
As part of the project, a mural dedicated to Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky and a series of murals depicting eight iconic historical figures of Zaporizhzhia were created on the territory of Zaporizhstal. The mural depicts the teacher Mykola Korf, the mayor of Oleksandrivsk Feliks Movchanovskyi, the city’s first historian Yakiv Novytskyi, public figure Pavlo Chyzhevskyi, Ukrainian theatre director and actor Volodymyr Mahar, Zaporizhzhia athlete Yakiv Punkin, chief architect of Zaporizhzhia Serhii Vasylivskyi, and the founder of the National Scientific School of History of Southern Ukraine Anatolii Boiko.
