Rinat Akhmetov Foundation Will Take Part in the All-Ukrainian Forum Dedicated To the Problem of Coronavirus

On February 8-10, Kyiv will host “Ukraine 30. Coronavirus: Challenges and Responses” Forum, arranged by the Office of the President of Ukraine with the support of the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). One of the participants in the dialogue on the pandemic and overcoming its consequences will be Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

– The coronavirus pandemic has become a major challenge for public medicine. Support hospitals, especially regional ones, were in dire need of modern equipment, protective suits, and test systems. To help the country quickly close the main medical needs, Rinat Akhmetov allocated more than UAH 300 million to the fight against coronavirus. Back in February 2020, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation launched “Fighting COVID-19 in Ukraine” project, under which it was possible to purchase and transfer more than 1000 units of medical and laboratory equipment to hospitals in all regions of the country. A key element of assistance was the donation of over 200 lung ventilators. In addition, the doctors of the supporting hospitals received from the Foundation 337 thousand rapid tests to determine COVID-19, more than 200 thousand personal protective equipment and consumables. Each position from the list of medical needs was acquired in conditions of fierce competition, but the Foundation coped with the task set by the Founder and was able to support doctors who save the lives and health of Ukrainians. The Foundation has gained a lot of experience, became the owner of a unique expertise. We received an invitation from the Office of the President to the forum, during which we will tell you how the project “Fighting COVID-19 in Ukraine” changed Ukrainian medicine and in just a year was able to become the largest, large-scale and system-based private initiative in the fight against coronavirus,” said Natalia Yemchenko, member of the Supervisory Board of Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

“Ukraine 30. Coronavirus: Challenges and Responses” Forum is being held with the participation of the Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, members of the government, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, leading economists and doctors of the country. The event was opened by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

– It is clear that the covid, unfortunately, has significantly reshaped our lives. But do we agree that this is final? How can we emerge victorious in this extraordinary battle? Will large-scale vaccinations be able to change the situation and restore freedom to humanity – the freedom to travel, communicate and hug loved ones? It is obvious that both the pandemic itself and vaccination as one of the mandatory elements of the formation of herd immunity are not an easy task for every country, in particular for Ukraine. There are a lot of challenges and questions. All of them are worth a meaningful conversation, an active public dialogue, – wrote the President in his telegram channel.

At the Forum, the Government of Ukraine will talk about its plans to control the pandemic for 2021. These include measures to restore the economy, and the organization of mass vaccinations, and assistance to vulnerable segments of the population. Separate blocks will be devoted to the adaptation of education and cooperation with international financial organizations.

Rinat Akhmetov Foundation is preparing to take part in the discussion panel “Regions Against the Virus”.

– For almost a year now, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has been helping the country in the fight against coronavirus. This is not only the supply of equipment necessary for doctors, but also numerous projects in the area of remote learning. We taught doctors how to work with the most modern lung ventilators and arranged two webinars, during which 2000 doctors learned from the country’s leading experts about the latest methods of treating coronavirus. For children in quarantine, the Digital Physical Education project was launched, which was watched by almost two million viewers. The Foundation has also launched “Ask the Doctor” project – and now anyone can ask the most authoritative doctors a question on the air. We will share our experience in creating educational projects, – added Natalia Yemchenko.
