The significant decline in production was a consequence of the enemy attack on August 11, 2026, which damaged energy facilities and infrastructure at Metinvest’s enterprises in Zaporizhzhia, including the main and auxiliary facilities of Zaporizhstal’s blast furnace operations. This resulted in a complete shutdown of Zaporizhstal.
The russian army attacked the already shut-down Zaporizhstal again on August 27, 2026, striking equipment in the blast furnace shop, energy and transport infrastructure, and open areas of the plant. This is yet another indication that russian forces are systematically targeting civilian industrial infrastructure and the people who work there.
