In 2023, Zaporizhstal produced 2.7 million tons of iron, and 2.5 million tons of steel, and shipped over 2 million tons of rolled products.
Enemy shelling and destruction, interruptions in the supply of raw materials and utilities, and disruption of logistics routes for the export of finished products due to the blockade of seaports in 2023 led to a reduction in steel and rolled products production at Zaporizhstal compared to pre-war levels. However, in 2023, versus 2022, Zaporizhstal increased the production of steel products by increasing the utilization of production capacities, finding new logistical ways for obtaining raw materials and selling products, as well as expanding its product portfolio.
“The anti-crisis solutions we found allowed us to stabilize the production process and reorient the company to work more efficiently in the rapidly changing wartime conditions, maintain production, and retain our team. In 2024, we plan to maintain production volumes and, given favourable conditions on foreign markets and demand for rolled steel in the domestic market, increase the utilization of our production facilities,” said Roman Slobodyanyuk, CEO of Zaporizhstal.
In December 2023, Zaporizhstal produced 265.5 thousand tons of pig iron, and 228.6 thousand tons of steel, and shipped 206.5 thousand tons of rolled steel. The increase in the level of production in December 2023 versus December 2022 is associated with demothballing the Blast Furnace No. 2 and the restart of the operation of three Blast Furnaces.
