NEWS

Meetings of workers took place in 40 subdivisions of the Works, where results of the shops work in 2008 and tasks for 2009 were discussed.

These meetings are notable for the rather high activity of metallurgists, showing their wish to understand the existing situation at the Works and in the branch of metallurgy on a global basis. Zaporizhstal workers asked a lot of questions concerning the work of the enterprise in the conditions of the economic crisis, the collective agreement and social protection, brought up questions on supplying the workers with work clothes, qualitative tools, etc.

The head of the hot strip mill shop S.V. Matsko addressed the shop meeting of workers and made a comparative analysis of the work of the collective in 2007 and 2008. He noted that the existing situation in the steel industry in the second half of the previous year lead to a drop in production. In 2007 3 mln 863 thousand tons of steel was rolled and in 2008 only 3 mln 354 thousand tons.

The main task of the rollers in 2009, said Sergey Vladimirovich, is to improve the quality of products because due to the increase of gas price and other energy carriers the prime cost of products will increase. V.N. Sus, deputy chairman of the trade union, also addressed the meeting. He told the workers about the work done by the trade union committee in preparing the collective agreement, thanked the rollers for their active participation in collecting money for the charity and health fund, answered a number of questions concerning the cooperation of Zaporizhstal JSC with “VitaCenter” Ltd and insurance company “Roksolana”.

Valentin Nikolaevich told the meeting participants what is being done by the administration of the Works regarding transfer of the mini family hostels into the ownership of the city authorities.

– There is a decision of the court to transfer these houses to state ownership, required documents are being collected and all the flats are being checked by the agency responsible for registration of property.

Yu. V. Shaptits, chairman of the shop trade union committee, noted that in the present conditions it is necessary to work with the young workers and he informed the shop workers what the trade union committee is doing in this aspect.
