The regular stage of the public ecological initiative «Save the Dnieper together !», which passes for the third year with financial and organizational support of the «Zaporizhstal» Steel Works, started in April 2015. This year, around 1,5 thousand spawning grounds for fishes have been established during the event, by forces of activists of the Zaporozhye regional organisation «The Society of fishers and hunters of Ukraine» (UООR) at the Zaporozhye water storage lake of river Dnieper.
This year children of 9 schools of Zaporozhye have joined the initiative, and during an ecological quest on island Hortitsa on April 28th, 2015, have made their contribution, by pre-paring of around 100 spawning grounds, which have been established in the same place.
During ecological quest in territory of seasonally flooded land of island Hortitsa, children have taken part in ecological competitions and have shown the knowledge in the field of ecology, ichthyology and ornithology. School teams presented the advance made nesting places for swimming birds, which were placed in territory of Nature Reserve with the help of activists of National Nature Reserve «Hortitsa». During the ecological quest, children have learnt a lot of informative about birds and fishes, which live in territory of the Zaporozhye region, defined the forbidden tools of fishing, learnt birds by their voices, and also have competed in other active stages of the competition. Schoolchildren have perfectly managed with all tasks, and following the results of competition, the organising committee has awarded winners with valuable prizes. School No.58, has taken the first place, Collegium “Elint” has occupied the 2d place, and school No.40 the 3d place.
Within limits of the initiative, «Save the Dnieper together !», volunteers and socially active persons since 2012, with the JSC «Zaporizhstal» support, realise useful ideas directed on enhancement and cleaning of water area and riverbanks of native Dnieper. Every year scope of public ecological initiative and quantity of participants grow, the ecological actions became more diversified. In particular, volunteers collect rubbish at the coast and in basin of river Dnieper, do massive stocking with fish, establish artificial spawning grounds, and also carry out other events directed on support and development of flora and fauna in the Zaporozhye region.
