Within the framework of the public environmental initiative “Save the Dnieper Together!” From May to June 2018, a joint action of the Works and the Ukrainian Society of Hunters and Fishermen is taking place in order to install 1200 artificial spawning nests for fish in the River Dnieper.

Artificial spawning nets are designed to preserve fish eggs under a variable hydrological regime, when the water level changes sharply. According to the calculations of the Zaporozhye regional organization of the Ukrainian Society of Hunters and Fishermen, these spawning nets can be used for about 5 million eggs. This will significantly increase the number of spring-spawning species of fish such as perch, roach, and bream in the waters of the River Dnieper.

Since 2012 Zaporizhstal has been systematically conducting a public environmental campaign “Save the Dnieper Together!”, together with the national reserve “Khortitsa”, Zaporozhye regional organization of the Ukrainian Society of Hunters and Fishermen, Federation of Underwater Hunting, Diving and Fishing and citizens. The campaign takes place in three stages: installation of spawning nests in the River Dnieper, environmental quest for pupils of Zaporozhye schools, autumn stocking of the Dnieper and a large-scale clean-up event. The target of the project is to clean the Dnieper River and coastal area, planting and restore living resources of waterways, as well as to implement other ideas of the participants who want to improve ecological situation in the water area of the Dnieper. In total, during existence of the campaign, about eight thousand artificial spawning nests were installed.
