On March 2-3, 2020, based on the International Institute of Management (Kiev), an inter industry event was held – a platform of environmental and technological solutions organized by the Ecobusiness group and the Professional Association of Ecologists of Ukraine. Zaporizhstal presented cases of environmental modernization of the Works.
The head of the environmental protection department of Zaporizhstal Inna Kholina focused on the unique experience of Zaporizhstal in equipping industrial units with the most modern gas cleaning systems – bag filters. Since 2012, Zaporizhstal has equipped each of the six sinter machines of sinter plant with bag filters – at present, Ukraine does not have the same highly effective gas purification analogues in the industrial sector. The environmental effect of the project is reduction of dust emissions by 90%, and sulfur oxides by 50%.
“Since 2012, Zaporizhstal has allocated about 15 billion UAH for eco-modernization of the Works. This allowed us to reduce significantly pressure on the environment and completely reconstruct sinter and rolling process”, said Inna Kholina.
The participants of the conference were interested in Zaporizhstal projects for the ecological reconstruction of blast furnaces with the installation of modern aspiration systems for casting yards and a bunker trestle, the construction hydrochloric acid pickling line in Cold Rolling Shop #1, the commissioning of a complex for the return of industrial storm runoff, etc.
The President of the Professional Association of Ecologists of Ukraine, the chief editor of Ecobusiness magazine Lyudmila Tsyganok emphasized that Zaporizhstal is part of a narrow circle of companies that systematically implement environmental projects and are deservedly awarded the main environmental award “Ecotransformation Leaders”.
