Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works of Metinvest Group continues to donate certified medical oxygen to medical facilities across Ukraine free of charge to save the lives of COVID-19 patients. In November 2021, the I&SW shipped around 1,400 tonnes of liquid oxygen to 30 hospitals in 11 regions of Ukraine.
In November 2021, hospitals in Zaporizhzhya, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Kharkiv, Kherson, Donetsk, Lugansk, Mykolaiv and Khmelnytskyi regions received liquid medical oxygen from Zaporizhstal on a free-of-charge basis.
Between April and November 2021, the I&SW shipped around 3,700 tonnes of medical oxygen to Ukrainian hospitals. The largest amount of medical oxygen for the whole period of its shipment by the I&SW was received by Zaporizhzhya hospitals and the regional infectious diseases hospital – more than 2,200 tonnes. As a reminder, Zaporizhzhya regional infectious diseases hospital is a COVID-hospital hub of the region, where Zaporizhstal and Metinvest, supported by Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation, financed construction of a modern oxygen station. Besides, the I&SW made a major overhaul of a department of the Zaporizhzhya regional infectious diseases hospital, which was previously damaged by a fire, by allocating 6 million hryvnias for this purpose.
In addition to Zaporizhstal, three other Metinvest Group enterprises provide oxygen to Ukrainian hospitals free of charge. Starting from October, when Ukraine faced an acute shortage of oxygen, Metinvest Group expanded the geography of oxygen supplies for COVID-19 treatment at the request of the Ukrainian Ministry of Health. The company’s enterprises, particularly Zaporizhstal, ship oxygen free of charge to 103 hospitals in 17 regions of Ukraine.
In October-November 2021, Metinvest’s enterprises shipped about 4,400 tonnes of oxygen to hospitals in Ukraine. Overall, Metinvest supplies every fourth ton of oxygen to hospitals free of charge. One ton meets the needs of approximately one hundred patients.
In April 2021 PJSC “ZAPORIZHSTAL” of Metinvest Group obtained a registration certificate from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for the production of liquid oxygen for the use as a medical pharmaceutical product. Since then, the I&SW has started to supply oxygen to medical facilities in Zaporizhzhya region on a free-of-charge basis.
