On April 19, 2016, PJSC "Zaporizhstal" organized an environmental quest on the island Khortytsya for nine-grade students from ten city schools within the framework of the fifth season of the public ecological initiative "Save the Dnieper together."
The main target of the environmental quest is to teach children respect for nature and to test and improve their environmental knowledge. The event was supported by the National Reserve "Khortytsya" and the Zaporozhye regional organization of the Ukrainian hunters and fishermen society. A total of 30 students from various areas of Zaporozhye participated in the quest.
All students performed tasks while moving along the north-eastern part of the island Khortytsya, covering a route length of 3 km. During the quest, students engaged in theoretical and practical tasks, participated in quizzes and competitions. Some of the tasks included setting up spawning nests for birds, searching for foxholes, birdwatching, and many other activities. Additionally, each team completed their homework by constructing a birdhouse for the birds. With assistance from the specialists of the National Reserve "Khortytsya," the students installed the 10 birdhouses on trees near the Historical and Cultural Complex “Zaporizhian Sich.”
According to the quest results, the jury selected the winners: 1st place – Zaporozhye educational complex "Vybor," 2nd place - Lyceum № 34, and 3rd place – Zaporozhye comprehensive school №76. The winners received valuable prizes from “Zaporizhstal” (a camera, laser printer, and a set of game balls), while all other participants were awarded prizes and a souvenir photo.
