PJSC “Zaporizhstal” is increasing energy efficiency of production due to an exchange of secondary gases with PJSC “Zaporizhkoks”. In particular, PJSC “Zaporizhstal” jointly with PJSC “Zaporizhkoks” has implemented a project for supply of coke gas from the PJSC “Zaporizhkoks” to the Rolling Shops of the Works (Slabbing Mill shop, Hot Strip Rolling Mill Shop), and also in CPP .
Application of coke gas in production will reduce the consumption of natural gas by replacing it with a cheaper fuel – a mixture of coke-blast. Total investment in the project makes up USD 75 million. The introduction of this technology will save up to 30 million cubic meters of natural gas per year.
As a result of implementation of a project, coke gas is supplied to the Works’ shops through the pipeline from PJSC “Zaporizhkoks”. Exchange of coke and blast furnace gases between enterprises will allow working with coke-blast and natural-blast mixes in CPP and HRTSW, Slabbing Mill shop, depending on the production capacity that will significantly reduce consumption of natural gas by the Works. In its turn, on PJSC “Zaporizhkoks”, the excessive blast-furnace gas from the Works will be used, which is a by-product of pig iron production, for power generation and thermal energy which is used in production.
“We use all production capacities of cooperation between the groups of enterprises as to ensure their stable functioning in the future. Use of secondary gases in production – is the major power effective project which will allow us to reduce significantly consumption of natural gas”, – stated the Chief Executive Officer of PJSC “Zaporizhstal” Rostyslav Shurma.
During implementation of the project, the coke gas pipeline was reconstructed; modernization of a boiler at PJSC “Zaporozhkoks” is made for a possibility to use blast-furnace gas. Works are conducted concerning reconstruction of the gas pipeline of blast-furnace gas from a Co-generation power plant of Zaporizhstal Works to boilers of PJSC “Zaporozhkoks”.
