Integrated iron and steel works “Zaporizhstal” in the first quarter 2013 decreased the energy consumption of produced metallurgical products by 9,8% together with production expansion. Energy consumption of the products in the first quarter 2013 amounted to 21 GJ/t versus 24,27 GJ/t for the same period in 2012.
Integrated iron and steel works energy efficiency improvement in the first quarter 2013 is connected with the carrying out of package of measures focused on the discovery of energy losses, developing and implementation of energy saving measures as a part of carrying out of the quality, energy efficiency, work safety and ecology policy. The contest on energy saving and efficient utilization of fuel and energy resources is conducted for the purpose of energy management efficiency upgrading. This contest will let to involve into this process all employees of integrated iron and steel works.
Approximately 50 measures which let to decrease fuel and energy and financial expenses were implemented at iron and steel works during the first quarter 2013. The following measures were implemented: the introduction of coal blending technology for pulverized coal chemical composition regulation in sinter shop, the increase of iron ore content in metal charge, the reduction of heating period and furnace charge in open-hearth furnaces shop and a number of other measures. Economic effect from energy saving measures implementation amounted to about 20 million UAH per month.
It stands to mention that in April 2013 integrated iron and steel works “Zaporizhstal” successfully passed the first stage of certification audit for conformance to international standard “ISO 50001:2011 Energy management systems”. The specialists of the company which conducted an audit confirmed the high level of the works preparation to the certification. The second stage of certification is scheduled in May 2013.
