On April 27-28, 2015, the "Zaporizhstal" Steel Works successfully passed the second supervisory audit for compliance with the international standard ISO 50001: 2011, highlighting the high performance level of its energy management system.
During two days, audit experts of the company checked the functioning of the energy management system, energy savings values, and evaluated processes that influence management and employee engagement, which contribute to achieving a high performance level. Auditors visited production departments of the plant, as well as the Human Resources department, where they assessed personnel awareness and involvement in energy efficiency.
“Zaporizhstal” can be considered an example of energy-efficient and responsible production. All implemented activities and plans of the Works reflect the large-scale and ongoing efforts in this direction. These achievements would have been impossible without a highly qualified staff, who support the plant and work conscientiously and with maximum efficiency in order to achieve the goals," commented Mikhail Levitsky, General Director of LLC "Technical and Management Services" (corporate partner of TUV SUD), on the results of the second supervisory audit.
From January to December 2014, “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works, against the backdrop of increased performance indicators (iron – by 9.1%, steel – by 3.8%, rolled products – by 5%), reduced natural gas consumption by 30 million cubic meters (or by 13%). "Zaporizhstal" Steel Works reduced natural gas consumption from 236 million cubic meters in 2013 to 206 million cubic meters in 2014. The Works achieved natural gas savings in 2014 through the introduction of energy efficiency measures at all production stages, with three quarters realized in steelmaking.
Let us remind that in 2013, according to audit results carried out by a corporate partner, the company "TUV SUD Ukraine" (Germany), "Zaporizhstal" Steel Works received an international certificate confirming the energy management system's compliance with the requirements of ISO 50001:2011.
