A highly virulent Delta strain affects lungs and airways faster and causes more serious complications. High hospital admissions of patients with COVID-19 and the continued need for oxygen therapy are indicative of the forth wave of coronavirus in Ukraine Doctors emphasize that it is of crucial importance in this situation to ensure stable supplies of medical grade oxygen to hospitals.
Steelmakers also contribute to local and national efforts to save lives of people threatened by COVID-19. Metinvest Group companies donate 80 tonnes of medical grade oxygen daily.The statement was made by Oleksandr Myronenko, CEO of Metinvest’s Zaporizhstal, during a live broadcast on Ukraina 24 channel.
“We can’t sit on the sidelines considering the situation in the country. Thus, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and Metinvest Group companies, including Zaporizhstal, have responded to the call for help from medical staff and started supplying oxygen. As of now, we deliver up to 80 tonnes of oxygen every day and plan to do it as long as the situation requires to ensure uninterrupted oxygen supplies to all hospitals,” stated Olexandr Myronenko.
According to the CEO, Zaporizhstal supplies oxygen with purity of 99.7%, which means it can be used for medical treatment. The registration certificate issued by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in early April 2021 for production of liquid oxygen for medical use confirms the high quality of Zaporizhstal oxygen.
“Metinvest steelmakers donate high quality medical grade oxygen to hospitals based in Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Chernihiv, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, and Khmelnytskyi oblasts. We meet the requests for oxygen from all hospitals approaching us, it is of crucial importance,” added Mr Myronenko.
Currently, Metinvest Group and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine are developing the oxygen delivery plans for the next two months.
