Metinvest Group’s Zaporizhstal supplied around 1,200 tonnes of liquid oxygen to Ukrainian hospitals in October

Zaporizhstal of Metinvest Group continues to donate the certified medical grade oxygen to hospitals across Ukraine, helping doctors save lives of COVID-19 patients. In October alone, Zaporizhstal supplied around 1,200 tonnes of liquid oxygen to hospitals in Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Donetsk Oblasts.

“Since the first oxygen supplies in April, Zaporizhstal has provided 2,300 tonnes of this life-saving gas to different regions of Ukraine. Half of this amount, 1,200 tonnes, was shipped in October. This goes to show how badly the hospitals need oxygen, how overwhelmed they are with serious cases, and what actually happens behind the doors of the intensive care units. As at the very outbreak, Zaporizhstal steelmakers are going to keep supporting the medical professionals at the frontlines of COVID-19 fight until the virus surrenders completely,” notes Zaporizhstal CEO Oleksandr Myronenko.

To remind, in April 2021 the Ministry of Health of Ukraine registered Metinvest Group’s Zaporizhstal as a producer of liquid oxygen for medical purposes. From that point, the plant began to provide oxygen to medical institutions in Zaporizhia Oblast free of charge. October was the busiest month in terms of oxygen supplies, as the plant daily donated up to 25 tonnes to Zaporizhia city hospitals and the regional clinic for infectious diseases, and up to 45 tonnes to medical institutions in other regions.

Metinvest Group currently delivers on average around 80 tonnes of oxygen to hospitals every day. One tonne of oxygen sustains nearly 100 patients. Thus, the oxygen produced by Metinvest Group helps support lives of 8,000 Ukrainians on a daily basis.

In 2021, the Metinvest Group celebrates the 15th anniversary since its foundation. Metinvest is an international vertically integrated mining and metals group of companies. Over its 15-year history Metinvest channelled around UAH 350 million to healthcare. In particular, hospitals in Zaporizhia, Mariupol, Avdiivka, and Pokrovsk received new oxygen stations that operate reliably and save lives, while Metinvest continues to donate oxygen to the hospitals.
