Metinvest Group’s Zaporizhstal Launches Production of Hot-Rolled Products of Structural Steels

Metinvest Group’s Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works has successfully completed the process of extending the scope of the certificate of conformity of hot-rolled steel products to EN 10025-1 to the steel grades S235-275 J0-J2 and S355 J0-J2.

Zaporizhstal has launched production of in-demand steel products, which, before the full-scale invasion, were produced at Illyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol. For this purpose, the company underwent an inspection of the production process and an analysis of its technological capabilities. As a result, the company received a certificate of conformity of the factory production control from Dedal, an international certification body.

“Despite the full-scale war and tough times for the domestic mining and metals sector, Zaporizhstal continues to work on expanding its product range and entering new markets. The certificate of conformity of the factory production control will allow us to expand into a new segment for Zaporizhstal – the production of more critical structural pipes, as well as parts for mechanical engineering and containers. Today, it is the flexibility and prompt response to customer requests that empower the plant with a 90-year history to operate, retain its team and support the economy of Ukraine,” said Roman Slobodianiuk, General Director of Zaporizhstal.

Trial lots of these products have already been supplied to several Polish customers, the first feedback on pipe cutting and production received, and control tests carried out. By continuing to work in this direction, Zaporizhstal can improve production results and achieve additional volumes of production and sales of hot-rolled steel products that meet the requirements of EN 10025-1:2004 for the structural steel grades S235-275 J0-J2 and S355 J0-J2 of 1.8 to 8 mm in thickness. The rolled products fully meet the requirements of the EU Directives for rolled products used in civil and industrial construction.
