On April 23, 2013, Integrated Iron and Steel Works Environmental protection laboratory successfully passed the competence assessment for the right of sampling of discharges into the air from stationary emission sources, control of Works wastes disposal to surface water reservoirs and control of condition of chemical and physical factors in the working area.
Competence assessment of Steel Works Environmental protection laboratory is done once in three years by the head attesting body for metallurgical plants “STC of metrology of testing and research” DonNIICherMet, State management of regional sanitary epidemiological station in Zaporozhye region, GP “Zaporozhyestandartmetrology”, which confirmed the matching of operation of laboratory to the requirements environment- oriented, sanitary and hygienic and metrological legislation.
According to the competence assessment results, the committee noted the proper preparation of Steel Works Environmental protection laboratory, equipping by up to date instruments, and also high professional level of laboratory specialists.
“Zaporozhstal” Integrated Iron and Steel Works Environmental protection laboratory consists of three research groups of environment. Competence assessment confirmed the right of each laboratory group for carrying out of research works according to each direction: air resources group, occupational sanitation, ventilation and microclimate of laboratory, and water resources group. Per the results of competence assessment, the committee noted the proper preparation of Steel Works environmental protection laboratory, equipping by up to date instruments, and also high professional level of laboratory specialists.
Passing of competence assessment by Environmental protection laboratory gives to the Steel Works the possibility to put into practice the continuous control of business environment matching to nature protection legislation, timely reveal and respond to possible discrepancies in the plants under control.
It should be noted, that by the end of April 2013 in the frame of 10 year anniversary of International Ecological Forum “Environment for Ukraine” (Kiev), Integrated Iron and Steel Works “Zaporozhstal” was awarded by diploma of Minister of ecology and natural resources of Ukraine for the energetic efforts on implementing the nature protection programs.
