On the 31st of January 2014 in the athletic training complex “Metallurg” the meeting of the General Director “Zaporizhstal” JSC and vice-president of European Athletic Association (EAA) Karel Pilny, president of Federation of athletics of Ukraine (FAU) Igor Gotsul and the leading athletes of the Sport Complex “Metallurg” was held.
The development of physical training and sport is the part of priority of the “Zaporizhstal” JSC social policy, which is realized as a part of Metinvest Group social activity. During the meeting were discussed the totals and prospects of collaboration as a part of Memorandum execution between “Zaporizhstal” Integrated Iron and Steel Works and FAU, signed in 2013. According the Memorandum, in 2013 the plant donated 8,5 mln. UAH for sports development, which includes 3,5 mln. UAH for the reconstruction of athletic training complex, FAU supplied the sport complex with the modern field and track equipment for running and high jumping for the amount of 274 thousand UAH.
«Athletic training complex – is the leading sport center not only in Zaporozhye region, but also in all other parts of Ukraine. In 2014 we will continue investments to the reconstruction of the Sport Complex, what will be firm basis for our sportsmen’s victories at the national and international competitions”, – said the General Director of the “Zaporizhstal” Integrated iron and Steel Works Rostyslav Shurma.
In 2014 “Zaporizhstal” Integrated Iron and Steel Works will direct 12,8 mln. UAH for sport development, including 2,2 mln. UAH for further reconstruction of athletic training complex, installation of the independent heat supply, photo finish system, reconstruction of the internal lighting, acoustic system and running track marking.
“I am glad, that we are talking about sport today. Sport is the peace, is the health of the nation, it is the future, and I am twice pleased, that such a large industrial giant as “Zaporizhstal”, is not only the leader of Ukrainian industry, but also is a leader of social responsibility”, – emphasized the vice –president of the European athletic association Karel Pilny.
“Zaporizhstal” motivates people to go in for sports, also motivates development of sport organizations, it also creates the competing spirit in terms of social responsibility among the regions of Ukraine and is also the stimulus for sport achievements.” – stated the president of FAU Igor Gotsul.
It is worth noting, that “Zaporizhstal” Integrated Iron and Steel Works on regular basis supports the sport organizations in the region – on the gratuitous basis it renders the sport complex for children and Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve on the track and field, disabled sportsmen “Invasport”, finances tutorials on rawsport and yachting. In 2013 about 850 thousand UAH were directed for these purposes.
