COLD-ROLLING SHOP NO.1

NEWS

Cold-rolling shop No. 1 started producing its products on 1 April, 1939. The first cold-rolled coils were produced by D.F. Khoroshko’s team.

Engineers A.A. Barchukov, P.I. Grudev, foremen M.S. Ivanchenko, A.I. Reznik, F.N. Ryaboshapka, P.P. Dombrovskiy, F.M. Gusenitsa, P.A. Arshinov,F.I. Shuvayev, V.T. Sokorenko were the first to start the labour history of the shop.

The intensively developing Soviet automobile and tractor building industry required more and more cold-rolled sheets. In the pre-war years the Works produced 70% of cold-rolled products of the total output in the country.

Approximately 3200 tons of rolling equipment was evacuated to the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Works at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.

The second birth of cold-rolling shop No.1 is considered 27 September 1947. On this day the first trainload of rolled products was delivered to the machine builders. In 1948 production of wide cold-rolled sheets for the automobile “Pobeda” was mastered on mill “2180”. Since 1956 reversing mill “1200” is in operation.

In July 1963 the rollers and builders in a record time (only 20 days) finished the reconstruction of rolling mill “Tandem”. On 20 July, on the eve of the Day of Metallurgists, F.M. Gusenitsa’s team rolled the first coil of automobile steel on the renewed mill.

In 1966 the tin rollers started the production of a new product — laquered blackplate. The same year the skin-passing mill, three blocks of gas furnaces and a shearing aggregate were put into operation. In 1972 a 20-high cold rolling mill for rolling stainless steel was put into operation. In October 1973 the construction of the PVC coating line was accomplished.

In 1976 the workers of mill “1680” in cold-rolling shop No.1 were announced the winners of the All-Union competition among the rollers and were awarded the rank “The Best Rolling Mill”. In 1980 this achievement was repeated by the workers of mill “1700-2”.

In 1981 the new skin-passing, straightening and shearing aggregate for stainless steel was put into operation.

In 1989 skin-passing mill “Quarto 1680” was reconstructed and transferred to rolling of coils. The following year a new block of gas bell-type furnaces No.15 was commissioned. In 1995 slitting machine for cold rolled strips was put into operation.

The external market is being successfully mastered. Cold rolled sheets and strips are exported.

1996 is the year when the tinning shop and cold-rolling shop No.1 were joined into one. At that time the new technology for packing sheets and coils was introduced in correspondence with the international standard requirements.

In 1999-2000 in the heat-treatment department the stability of the bell-type furnaces due to the usage of new furnace lining materials was increased, the introduction of a guidance apparatus, a fan propeller, protected by the Patent of Ukraine, was started.

On 3 April 2003 a modernized aggregate for hot-dip tinning No.3 for the production of tinplate of a width 512mm for food stuff producers was commissioned.

In February 2006 a block of heat-treatment furnaces, built according to the contract with Austrian firm “Ebner”, was put into operation.

Among the workers of the shop there are 5 “Lenin Order” decoration holders, 29 “Red Banner Labour Order” decoration holders, 42 “Order of Badge of Honour” decoration holders, 18 “Order of Labour Glory” of the III degree decoration holders.
