Over 150 volunteers from Metinvest's Zaporizhzhia enterprises joined the spring volunteer clean-up. Employees of Zaporizhstal and Zaporizhcoke, together with their families, cleaned green areas and the shoreline, continuing the long-standing tradition of caring for Zaporizhzhia.
On Saturday, April 4, the participants worked at two locations — in the green zone at the intersection of Peremohy and Skifska streets and along the shoreline of the Dnipro near the Epicenter.
"We regularly join in volunteer clean-ups — sometimes we initiate them ourselves, sometimes we unite with others. This is about a common cause: to make the city cleaner and better," says Serhii Petrov, deputy head of Zaporizhstal's Youth Organization.
Participants say that such initiatives are an opportunity to contribute to the common space, because the cleanliness of the city depends on everyone.
"I want the city to be clean and safe. So that people can relax without the risk of running into glass or debris. Therefore, it is important not to wait for someone to do it, but to act yourself," says Daniil Kolisnyk, leading electrical engineer of the Chief Power Engineer's function at Zaporizhstal.
The volunteer clean-up was also an opportunity for live communication outside work and strengthening team spirit.
"During informal gathering, it is easy to communicate, get to know each other better and at the same time do a useful thing. And also to set an example for children how to be eco-friendly," says Yana Fotorniuk, employee of the Zaporizhstal's shop.
It was for this purpose that Artem Stoliarov came to the volunteer cleanup together with his son. The little helper carefully observed adults and learned to respect the environment.
"I came with my son Danilo to show him a simple thing: cleanliness starts with each of us. And it is important to join such useful initiatives," emphasizes Artem Stoliarov, head of Zaporizhstal's Hot Rolling Shop.
In a few hours of work, volunteers collected a significant amount of garbage — mainly plastic, glass, and household waste.
"We went to two locations to help the city become even tidier on the eve of the Easter holidays. Together we put things in order where it is really needed. In total, more than 2 tonnes of garbage were collected and removed during the volunteer clean-up," says Maksym Ped, HR Director of Zaporizhstal.
For Metinvest employees, such actions are more than cleaning. It's about responsibility, unity, and love for your hometown. Zaporizhzhia steelmakers will continue to join such initiatives, because such deeds not only make the city cleaner, but also unite people around common values.
