In 2024, Metinvest Group's Zaporizhstal launched the production of six new types of sheet and coil products, which are in demand in the construction industry, railcar manufacturing, and metal product segment. Over the year, approximately 14,000 tonnes of these new product mix were shipped to Bulgaria, Poland, Slovakia, and the domestic market.
"Ukrainian metallurgists continue to work despite challenges such as labor shortages, energy supply constraints, underutilised production capacities, and logistics crises. Under these conditions, we are not just producing steel products—we are competing for customers and developing new product types in response to their needs. Zaporizhstal shipped 14,000 tonnes of new product mix to its clients in 2024. However, we are not stopping here—our product portfolio continues to grow. Currently, we are working on mastering three more new products," said Taras Shevchenko, Acting General Director of Zaporizhstal, Hero of Ukraine.
In 2024, Zaporizhstal started production of four new products in the cold-rolled segment. In particular, the company began producing S250GD grade coil, which is used for further galvanizing and other coatings and is subsequently applied in the production of lightweight thin-walled steel structures. Another addition is the S215G grade hot-rolled product, designed for the production of open and welded metal profiles, sheets, and other building structures.
Zaporizhstal metallurgists also mastered the technology of producing DC01 grade coil with a thickness of 2.5 mm, as well as cold-rolled sheet with a thickness of 2.1-2.5 mm, suitable for a wide range of applications, including the production of various construction elements and technical products for the building industry. These rolled products are used in applications where precise geometry and ease of forming, combined with sufficient mechanical strength, are crucial.
Additionally, in 2024, Zaporizhstal launched the production of two hot-rolled products. These include coils and sheets of S355JR/S355J2 grades with a thickness of 2.75-2.79 mm, which are used in the manufacturing of electric-welded pipes and profiles. The company also introduced 5.0x1500x6000 mm sheets made from 09G2/09G2S steel, intended for the production of structural components for railway cars.
For reference, Metinvest Group's metallurgical enterprises mastered production of 20 new products in response to market demand. In total, over the decade of war, Metinvest Group has successfully launched the production of 422 new products.
