According to the annual capital investment programme, Zaporizhstal of Metinvest Group will carry out repairs of key units of a combined heat and power plant. The enterprise will allocate about UAH 75 million of investments for these purposes.
"The combined heat and power plant is responsible for the production of three key types of energy resources – steam, blast, electricity – and feeds the divisions of the enterprise with them, ensuring the sustainability of the production process at the sinter plant, blast furnace, rolling and other main, as well as auxiliary shops. The major repairs will increase the reliability and faultless operation of both individual components of units and the entire energy complex of Zaporizhstal," said Taras Shevchenko, Acting General Director of Zaporizhstal, Hero of Ukraine.
Zaporizhstal will alternately put power equipment into repair, since the complex of works will be carried out in the conditions of existing production while maintaining the planned production volumes.
Zaporizhstal has already begun a large-scale overhaul of boiler unit No. 5, which is planned to be carried out every few years and will last about 100 days. The main scope of work is the replacement of a boiler superheater, a water economizer, engineering utilities, actuators for controlling air gates. Also, specialists will repair gate valves, fans, ID fans, inspect and update electrical equipment and automation.
The next in line is turbocharger unit No. 7, all planned work will be completed within 80 days. Specialists will replace the impellers of the compressor, blades, steam supply gate valves, bleeder valve, and main control sensors. Electric motors of pumps and shut-off valves, lighting circuits and other equipment will be repaired.
In autumn, a major overhaul of turbine generator No. 1 starts, which will last 45 days. Currently, the preparatory stage for the work is underway. Specialists plan to modernize the control systems, replace electromechanical drives, the main components of the control valves, and repair the generator rotor. During the repair, an inspection and maintenance of the generator stator will be performed.
The major overhauls will be carried out by its own engineering department with the involvement of contractors Inventum Ukraine and Intel Energo.
Despite the challenging economic situation, Zaporizhstal has gradually increased its capital investments in production during the war: investments were UAH 500 million in 2022, UAH 750 million in 2023, and UAH 938 million in 2024. The capital investment budget for 2025 is planned at the level of UAH 1.1 billion.
