On May 14, 2019, based on the “Zaporizhstal” works, a conference of railway workers of Ukraine’s industrial enterprises on the topic “Locomotive Re-motorization” was held.
Among the participants of the conference are representatives of metallurgical and diesel locomotive repair enterprises of Ukraine, including the Dnipro Metallurgical Plant, ArcelorMitall Krivoy Rog, MMKI, Azovstal , Avdiivka Coke Plant, Dneprospetsstal , Zaporozhye Diesel Locomotive Repair Plant and others.
During the conference, Zaporizhstal presented its successful experience in remotorization diesel locomotives of the TGM-4 series as part of the Enterprise locomotive fleet modernization program. “Zaporizhstal” have been conducting remotorization of railroads rolling stock, which involves the replacement of the engine with a new, more efficient engine production manufactured by the American company “Cummins”, hydraulic transmission and modernization of wheel sets, brakes, since 2017. Due to remotorization, the equipment overhaul period was increased, fuel and fuel consumption was reduced, and the working conditions of workers were improved. For three years, five TGM-4 machines have been updated by the Nikolayev and Zaporizhzhia diesel locomotive- repair plants, as well as by the company’s own forces. Investments in the renewal of the locomotive fleet amounted to around 50 million UAH.
The conference participants also discussed proposals on the modernization of locomotives series of TEM-2, were acquainted with the work of remotorized locomotive fleet of “Zaporizhstal”.
