On April 25, 2019, the All-Ukrainian Junior Football Tournament named after Oleksandr Polyak started in Zaporizhzhia city. Games among six football schools of the city and the region, as well as the city of Dnepr, were first hosted in the new field, reconstructed with the financial support of the “Zaporizhstal” works. For these purposes, the company has allocated 3.7 million UAH.

“Since 2016, when “Zaporizhstal” took over the football academy, the number of students has grown from 400 to 1,500 children. We do not just provide a productive learning process – we invest in upgrading the material and technical base of the school, creating the best conditions for training. We want to make sport popular, affordable and high-quality, because these are investments in priority No. 1 – in our children,” said General Director of PJSC “Zaporizhstal” Rostislav Shurma, during the opening of the updated field.
Recall that “Zaporizhstal” has been providing financial support to the “Metallurg” football school since 2016. For three years of cooperation, the works has directed 24 million UAH to the development of youth football in Zaporizhzhia. In 2019, funding for the football school continues and amounts to 8.5 million UAH.
Today the Children and Youth Sports School “Metallurg” is a modern sports school with a consistently high level of football training. Over the past three years, the training base has been significantly updated at the school – the reconstruction of two football fields has been completed, mobile changing rooms have been installed, players are fully provided with equipment and inventory.
Among the main achievements of the young football players of the sport school “Metallurg” for three sport seasons are regular participation and prizes in the youth football league of Ukraine, 25 gold and 5 silver victories in national and regional tournaments, second place in the ranking of the best football schools in Ukraine.
