On May 30 to June 1, 2018 in Zaporozhye, the international environmental forum “EcoForum-2018” was held. Among the participants, there were representatives of the relevant ministries of Ukraine, regional and city authorities, the public, industrial enterprises of the region, foreign guests. On the site of the eco-forum, “Zaporizhstal” traditionally shared the experience of implementing large-scale projects of ecological modernization.
The central topics of the eco-forum-2018 were the discussion of the concept of the “Green Office” and the importance of involving small and medium-sized businesses in issues of resource saving and reducing waste generation activities.
Traditionally, the visitors of the exhibition-and-conference paid a lot of attention to the stands of the participants, among them the Zaporizhstal Works’ stand dedicated to the complex ecological modernization of the enterprise. During the forum, the head of the environmental protection department of Zaporizhstal, Inna Kholina, presented solutions aimed at reducing water abstraction and discharges into water basins.
«Systemic implementation of an integrated, comprehensive program to reduce the environmental burden on the region enabled us to reduce by 10% the volume of water abstraction for the technical needs of the enterprise, to reduce the discharge of return water by 1.6 million cubic meters. Now we are implementing several more projects that will allow us to reduce our influence on the water basin», – Inna Kholina noted.
Within the framework of the eco-forum, Zaporizhstal’s experience in the field of on-line monitoring of the enterprise was also presented.
«In its work, Zaporizhstal looks up to the world practice, and the implementation of the online monitoring system is one of such projects. For Ukraine, this is a relevant and new topic, therefore it is important for us to share our experience so that not only Zaporizhstal, but also other enterprises of the industrial site of Zaporozhye, implement new solutions», – Inna Kholina underlined.
Let us remind that within the ecological modernization, the enterprise completed the full ecological modernization of the sinter plant with the construction of new high-efficiency gas cleaning systems on all six sinter machines. Also in 2017, Zaporizhstal, in record time and with the use of modern technical solutions, performed an environmental reconstruction of blast furnace No. 3. Earlier, the Works performed a large-scale reconstruction of blast furnace No. 4 with the construction of a cast house aspiration system and a stockhouse overhead, a new pickling line was built in the cold rolling mill shop No.1. Since 2012, Zaporizhstal has allocated more than UAH 8.8 billion for environmental modernization.
