On May 22, 2018, the submission of applications for a contest of social initiatives “We are the city” was completed. The number of applications for the contest is growing every year: if in 2013 130 applications were submitted, then in 2018 their number doubled – up to 287. Initiatives were received from charitable, municipal, medical, sports, educational and public institutions and organizations in Zaporozhye.
“Every year appear new ideas and projects that will be interesting for us to make real together with citizens. For these purposes, the Works, with the participation of Zaporozhkoks, Zaporozhogneupor and Zaporozhye Foundry and Mechanical Plant, has increased the fund up to 4.3 million UAH”, said the head of the expert council, Director on investments of Zaporizhstal Aleksey Lebedev
The applications were received from April 11 to May 21. During this period, the Works held two training sessions. Lectures on social design were carried out by project coordinators and members of the expert council for 500 members of the public. Similar training will be held at the semi-final stage for the contest participants.
After completion of the submission, starts a stage of technical expertise of the projects submitted. On June, 22 the semifinalists of the contest will be determined, after which the online voting for the title “People’s Project” will start. Every citizen of Zaporozhye will be able to take part in the voting on the official website of the contest. The winning projects will receive grants for the implementation in amount up to 100 thousand UAH.
The corporate social program “We are the city” was initiated by the Zaporizhstal Steel Works and has been working since 2013. In 2015, the companies of Metinvest Group such as Zaporozhogneupor and Zaporozhkoks joined the project, and in 2018 Zaporozhye Foundry and Mechanical Plant. Over 5 years of the program, 946 applications were submitted for participation in the contest, which were expertly selected. In the framework of the social program “We are the city” 157 projects have been implemented. These include such large-scale projects as the All-Ukrainian Festival of Home Pickling, Summer School of Robototechnic and the Museum of History of Children’s Tourism and Local History. The total amount of all grants amounted to about 10 million UAH.
