«ZAPORIZHSTAL» STEEL WORKS DECREASED CONSUMPTION OF NATURAL GAS IN THE FIRST HALF YEAR FOR 17% WHILE GROWTH OF OUTPUT

NEWS

«Zaporizhstal» SW has decreased consumption of natural gas from January to June, 2014, for 22.4 million m³ (or for 17.5%) and commercial electric power for 20.6 million kW-h (or for 3.6%) in comparison with the same period of 2013. Yet, in the 1st half year of 2014, «Zaporizhstal» SW increased the output of iron for 4.8%, steel – for 4.0%, rolled stock – for 6.4% in comparison with the same period of 2013.

In 2014, «Zaporizhstal» SW monthly demonstrated a stable dynamics in consumption decrease of natural gas and commercial energy resources, following the process strategy of Metinvest Group, which involves development of production and realization of energy saving arrangements.

«Energy saving program is being realized here in few lines – an active production process development, upgrading efficiency of the secondary energy resources utilization and reducing of energy resources utilization in production process. This is especially actual in a present-day deficit of natural gas and growth of prices for energy resources», – the CEO of «Zaporizhstal» Steel Works Rostyslav Shurma noted.

Reduction of natural gas consumption in the 1st half year of 2014 was achieved in steel-making production as well as in TPP (Heating Power Plant) and in Rolling Mill production, due to transfer to the alternative energy sources – to coke and Blast Furnace gas, and due to implementation of a number of other power-saving arrangements.
