Since morning, in the health center of the Slabbing Mill Shop of “Zaporizhstal” PJSC was absolutely packed: people stood in line to donate blood. Some people decided to share their most valuable for the first time, but for the most Zaporizhstal employees, the Donor Day is already a traditional event.
– To be honest, I even somehow feel better after I have donated blood,” says Bogdan Bagriy, the foreman of the Blast Furnace department. – Today I’m going to donate it for the third time. The first time I was inspired by my father, who is an honorary donor and works at Zaporizhstal. He decided to take me to the health center and show everything, and I took the guys from the site with me.
As the medical workers who prepared Zaporizhstal employees to take blood samples told, both men and women come to them. This time they managed to collect 42 liters of precious liquid. 94 metallurgists took part in the event.
On average, it is collected up to 700 liters of blood in a year at Zaporizhstal Works, which makes up 1 400 doses. Blood is sent to the bank of the Works’ blood. There it is stored in proper conditions and is used if necessary at the request of employees or transferred to the medical institutions of the city.
In addition, Zaporizhstal actively helps hospitals in the city with equipment. In particular, the regional clinical children’s hospital now does not know how to live without a refrigerator to store blood plasma. It accommodates 800 to 1000 plasma packets, which are transferred to hospitals after a six-month quarantine. When such a refrigerator was urgently needed for the hospital, the plant promptly responded and allocated 28 thousand hryvnias for its acquisition.
