Zaporozhye schoolchildren invented a robot to clean the Dnieper

For the Dnieper Day with the support of Zaporizhstal Steel Works, Zaporozhye schoolchildren launched a water robot on the river to collect garbage. The development and trial launch of the technology took place within the framework of the public action “Save the Dnieper Together!”

The robotics school “Smart Kids” is the winner of contest “We are the city”. The project became the winner because of a good initiative – to gather children interested in advanced technologies and create robots along with them.

“Zaporizhstal” provided financial support in the development of one project called Waterbot. It is a robot, capable collecting plastic and polyethylene garbage in a basin in automatic mode. Also, this invention is equipped with pH sensor that analyzes the acidity of water and its suitability for swimming.

“Waterbot is the basis for creating a full-fledged mobile monitoring laboratory for the condition of water. It is good that the younger generation is aware of the responsibility in solving environmental problems and is actively participating in this,” – says the teacher of robotics school Smart kids, the head of software department ZNTU, Professor Sergey Subbotin.

Young engineers hope that they will be able to turn the work into an industrial model. If you buy the necessary electronic components, it is possible to develop a serious design, which can be put into the Dnieper for several days.
